Young Kinneret Emissaries Complete Year in Milwaukee
Service to the community is a commonly held high value in Israel- so much so that many Israeli teenagers spend an entire year in public service either before or after their mandatory army service. This year of service is referred to by the three words shnat sherut shlishit, a 'third' year of service, and is shortened to "Shin-Shin" when referring to this program.

JCC Association - Young Judaea Partnership Expanding to Include "Year Course in Israel"
JCC Association and Young Judaea, the Zionist Youth Movement sponsored by Hadassah, joined together in 1999, creating a monumental partnership, now entering her fourth year. Fifty-eight JCCs across North America currently sponsor and host Young Judaea groups on their premises.

Israeli Teens Bring Maccabi Torch to JCC Maccabi Games Host Communities
Maccabi World Union's close partnership with JCC Association includes JMaX and birthright israel programs, bringing teens and young adults to Israel, and the annual JCC Maccabi Games hosted by North American JCCs. In addition, Maccabi World Unionâ??s annual Chanukah Torch Relay is sending four young members of the Maccabi youth movement (out of 15 worldwide), bearing torches from Israel to JCCs in North America, in commemoration of the story of the Maccabees. Following a successful pilot in the Marcus JCC in Atlanta, this menu of new programs now includes the option of arranging to bring Israeli early childhood educators to local JCCs for a defined period of time.

Deja Vu! The Jewish Renewal Campaign in Israeli Community Centers
More than 20 years ago, North American JCCs began examining ways to maximize their Jewish educational effectiveness. Since then, many have engaged first rate Jewish educators on their professional team; 3,500 JCC professionals and lay leaders participated in Jewish educational training via JCC Association's Israel seminars; many added a sophisticated Jewish educational overlay to their gamut of activities and services; and a continental task force issued a report identifying multiple opportunities for strengthening JCC-Israel partnerships.

Community centers do their part to help Israelis in the north

With magicians, clowns, table-games and musical performances on a daily basis, one might mistakenly believe that a carnival is in town. Far from it.

Instead, these activities are part of the home front efforts being organized by the Israel Association of Community Centers (IACC) to help children and their parents living in northern Israel cope with the month-long war that has brought daily bombardment of Katyusha rockets into their backyards.

The Israel Association of Community Centers, with support from United Jewish Communities, the Jewish Agency for Israel and the American Joint Distribution Committee, played a major role in communities throughout Israel's north during the recent month of warfare, and will continue to do so in its aftermath.
