Building Bridges Between Israel and North American JCCs  |

Thoughts on Education

By Gary Lipman 1/27/2009

Somehow the days in Israel just seem longer than back home in Stamford…or maybe it just seems that way when traveling on a JCC Association Israel seminar.  For many people, today was their first full day in Israel, and I don’t know how they made it through.  From an early wake-up call at 7:00 a.m. until just now at 10:30 p.m., there hasn’t been a free moment.  Of course, there also hasn’t been a 15-minute period when someone wasn’t shoving food into us.

Heading South
By Andy Shaevel

A Day of Contrast

Last night I arrived in Tel Aviv
By Andy Shaevel
Last night I arrived in Tel Aviv.  Our flight was early, so I had a few minutes to look around the airport.  The airport is fresh and beautiful.  Like traveling to any foreign country, the language gap took a few minutes to navigate.  I found an ATM machine, bought a bottle of water and found the Men’s room.  Real accomplishments, I am ready for my adventure!

Shalom from Jerusalem!
By Gary Lipman
Shalom from Jerusalem!   While today was the official start of our JCC Association Israel Leadership Seminar, I’ve had the great opportunity to spend the last few days visiting Israel with a friend and colleague who works for the JNF, as well as a first time chance to explore the country independent of an organized trip.  While it truly is a wonder to see Israel independently, there’s really nothing that compares to the experience of learning and studying together with a group of people who share a common experience like leadership in the JCC Movement.

It’s now seven hours into the ten hour flight from Toronto to Tel Aviv and the great anticipation of arriving in Israel for the first time has been building up for weeks, if not months or years.
